This is John R. Berg's personal website for the stakeholders of the South Kitsap School District.
The Board has failed to take any action towards putting a renewed capital levy on the ballot for 2023 tax collection. The Board will have only one meeting scheduled (July 20th) before the deadline to certify a proposal for the November 2022 ballot. The total tax rate for SK schools for 2023 taxes will most likely be around $2.25 / $1000, meaning a home assessed at $300,000 will pay about $675 in 2023, compared to $802 in 2022 (adjusting for a 10% annual increase in assessed value).
The downside for the District and students will be that there will not be additional funds for safety and security improvements to the school buildings. Elementary schools do not yet have cameras and most buildings do not have limited entrances for greater security.
